Let’s talk about bad Leadership

Let’s talk about bad Leadership – The dark side of Personalmanagement

Leadership ethic and leadership success not always go hand in hand. This very old idea comms from II Principles of Machiavelli and in opposite to modern way of managers thinking, reveals that even though you don’t behave yourself fair in terms of working live and leadership, you can reach your goals….. unfortunately, only your private goals. Is Leadership ethical, do we need Leaders at all?

Back to the history, Machiavelli wrote about strong and week leadership and about differences between both approaches. Strong Leader is able to act unscrupulous and unethically if the situation forces him to choose the hard methods.  Are Managers taking in account a cruelty and hardness because of aims fulfilment?

Let’s try to find answers by making a deep dive in to a bad leadership topic.

Firstly, we start with some definitions to get more familiar to the important terms:

1.       Petty tyranny – this term describes a person which use her authority and power to put a pression on you (mostly more than needed). This kind of leaders can be unpredictable and vindictive.

2.       Supervisor undermining – very destructive leadership behaviour. Leading person try to destroy all good relationships between co-workers. This management approach aims to make a development of healthy relationships impossible. Gossiping or damaging a reputation of subordinates is well-known method for those leaders.

3.       Managerial tyranny- Leader has a clearly, compulsive Vision and he will undertake all possible methods to fulfil this Vision – of course ASAP. The opinion of others isn’t important.

4.       Toxic leaders – Manager, that shows a great motivation 😊 to make your life as difficult as possible. The main purpose is to cause long-term, serious damages and problems towards team.

5.       Destructive achievers – ethic and corporate values can be excluded in the terms of aims fulfilment.

In each company we can find examples for bad and good leadership. It’s important to recognise a wrong behaviour and investigate the situation. A bad leadership science shows us that checking and investigating the triggers and reasons for wrong management, can be very constructive way to learn more about our company and to find an appropriate solution to solve the issue.

Harvard professor Mrs. Kellerman says:

“When leaders are unwilling or unable to control their desire for more, bad leadership will be the result.”

We can say, ok but what about subordinates? Why they doing nothing to stop this unproductive, painful occurrence? Mostly because of anxiety according to co consequences or sometime even bed manager can fulfil the employees need for safety……
